Getting Here

 

The Lighthouse is located on Clare Island in Clew Bay off the coast of Co. Mayo (Lat/Long: 53° 49′ 05″ N, 9° 59′ 00″ W)

Directions from Westport to Clare Island

Take the R335 to Louisburgh (20 km.) Approximately 1.5 km after Louisburg town take a right turn for Roonagh Pier. (approx. 7 km) The Ferry sails from Roonagh pier to Clare Island. (20 minutes approx.).

Directions from Galway to Clare Island

From Galway an alternative (and more scenic) route is to take the Clifden road to Maam Cross and turn right there to Leenane. From Leenane (and anywhere else in Connemara) take the Westport Road direction, approximately 3.5 km out of Leenane, turn left for Louisburgh (first left turn after Leenane). Follow this beautiful drive along the shores of Killary harbour, up the Delphi Valley and the Doo Lough Pass. When you arrive at Louisburgh turn left and follow the signs for Roonagh Pier and Clare Island. It is a further 7km to the pier. Journey time is approximately two hours from Galway. The Ferry sails from Roonagh pier to the quay Clare Island. (20 minutes approx.).

Getting from Clare Island Quay to the Lighthouse

A taxi service, (mini bus, can take up to 14 people) is available on the island.
It is necessary to book the taxi in advance.

In fine weather a lovely alternative is to walk from the Pier to The Lighthouse (minus luggage!) – a brisk 40–45-minute walk.

Car parking at Roonagh is free.

There is provision at the lighthouse for Helicopter landing
